The Birth of the stone monkey:

This is a mythical story. It is said that long, long ago, the world was divided into Dongsheng Shenzhou, Xiniu Hezhou, Nanzhubuzhou, and Beiju Luzhou. In the Aolai Kingdom of Dongsheng Shenzhou, there is a mountain of flowers and fruits. There is a fairy stone on the mountain. One day, the fairy stone cracked, and an egg rolled out of the stone. When the egg saw the wind, it turned into a stone monkey, and the monkey’s eyes shot out a golden light, worship in all directions.

The monkey can walk and run. When he is thirsty, he drinks some spring water in the mountain stream, and when he is hungry, he eats some fruits from the mountain.

Playing with the animals in the mountains all day and having a good time. One day, the weather was very hot, and the monkeys ran to the mountain stream to take a bath in order to avoid the hot weather. When they saw the spring water rushing, they walked along the stream to find its source.

The monkeys crawled, crawled, and when they reached the end, they saw a waterfall that seemed to fall from the sky. The monkeys were amazed and discussed, “Whoever dares to enter the waterfall and find the source of the spring water without hurting his body, we will worship him as the king.” After shouting three times, the stone monkey jumped out loudly, and shouted aloud: “I’m in, I’m in!”

The stone monkey closed his eyes and jumped into the waterfall. He didn’t feel like he was in the water. Then he opened his eyes, looked around, and found himself standing on an iron bridge. The water under the bridge rushed through the stone apertures, hanging upside down Flow out and cover the bridge door so that those outside cannot see inside. The stone monkey walked across the bridge and found that this is a really good place, with stone chairs, stone beds, stone basins, stone bowls, everything.

It’s like someone lived here not long ago, a natural house, quiet and tidy, with pots, bowls, ladles, and pots neatly placed on the stove. There was a stone tablet engraved on it: Flower and Fruit Mountain Blessed Land, Water Curtain Cave Cave Heaven. The stone monkey was overjoyed, turned around and walked out, jumping out of the hole with a swish.

When the monkeys saw that the stone monkey came out, and there was no injury on his body, they were surprised and happy, surrounded him, and scrambled to ask him what was going on inside. The stone monkey scratched his cheeks, scratched his itch, and said to everyone with a smile: “There is no water in it, so it is a good place to live. We have a place to hide when the wind blows, and we are not afraid of getting drenched in the heavy rain.” When the monkeys heard it, they jumped and jumped with joy.

The stone monkey named himself “Monkey King”:

The monkeys followed the stone monkeys through the waterfall and entered the water curtain cave. They saw so many good things. Competing with each other, the one who takes the basin takes the basin, the one who takes the bowl takes the bowl, the one who occupies the stove occupies the stove, and the one who fights for the bed fights for the bed, move over, move over, until exhaustion. The monkeys obeyed their promises and worshipped the stone monkey as the king, and the stone monkey ascended the throne from then on, omitting the stone character, and calling himself the “beautiful monkey king”.

The Monkey King took the monkeys to swim in the mountains and water every day, and soon three or five hundred years passed. One day, when he was playing, the Monkey King thought that he would die in the future, and he couldn’t help but shed tears of sadness. At this time, a tong-backed ape out of the monkey group and said, “Your Majesty, if you want to live forever, you can only learn the arts of Buddhism, immortality, and divine arts.”

Sun Wukong has the idea of looking for immortals to learn immortality:

The Monkey King decided to travel to the ends of the earth to find immortals and learn the skill of immortality. The next day, the monkeys made a raft for him and prepared some wild fruits, so the Monkey King bid farewell to the group of monkeys, supported the raft alone, and ran to the vast ocean.

Probably because of the good luck of the Monkey King, the southeast wind for several days sent him to the northwest shore. He got off the raft and landed on the shore, and saw many people on the shore working, some catching fish, some hunting geese in the sky, some digging clams, some panning for salt, he walked over quietly, but unexpectedly, those people were so frightened that they threw the things and ran for their lives everywhere.

One day, he came to a high mountain, and suddenly a beautiful song came from the woods halfway up the mountain, singing some words about becoming an immortal. The Monkey King thought: The person who sang must be a god, so he followed the song to find him.

The monkey king went to “three-star cave with a slanting moon” to learn celestial arts from Patriarch Bodhi:

The singer was a young man who was chopping wood in the woods. The Monkey King learned from the young man that the mountain was called Lingtai Fangcun Mountain. seven or eight miles away from here, there is a three-star cave with a slanting moon, and in the cave lives a god called Bodhi Patriarch.

The Monkey King bid farewell to the young man who was collecting firewood, went out of the woods, walked across the hillside, and saw a cave in the distance. I saw the door was tightly closed, on the hill opposite the cave door stood a stone tablet, about thirty feet high and eight feet wide. There are ten big characters written on it: “Lingtai Fangcunshan Xieyue Sanxingdong”. While watching, the door suddenly opened, and a fairy boy came out.

The Monkey King quickly stepped forward, bowed deeply, and explained his purpose, and the fairy boy said, “My master was just about to preach when he suddenly called me out to open the door. It was said that there was a teacher from outside to study art, and it turned out to be you! Come with me! “The Monkey King hurriedly adjusted his clothes and respectfully followed the fairy boy into the cave, and came to the dharma platform where the Patriarch preached.

The Monkey King saw Patriarch Bodhi sitting upright on the stage, there were more than 30 fairy children standing on both sides under the stage, and they quickly knelt down and kowtowed. When the Patriarch asked about his purpose, he was very happy. Seeing that he did not have a name, he said, “You can be called Wukong!”

The patriarch called Sun Wukong to meet the brothers again, and found a vacant room for Wukong to live in. Since then, Wukong has learned common sense of life with his senior brothers, pays attention to classics, writes and burns incense, and does some work of sweeping the floor and carrying water in his spare time.

Soon seven years passed. One day, after the Patriarch finished his sermon, he asked Wukong what skills he wanted to learn. No matter what the Patriarch said about praying to God, worshipping Buddha, meditating and practicing, as long as he heard that he could not live forever, he would not want to learn it. Patriarch Bodhi was very angry about it.

The patriarch jumped off the high platform, pointed at Sun Wukong with a ring ruler in his hand, and said, “You monkey, you don’t learn this, you don’t learn that, what do you want to learn?” After speaking, he walked over and hit Wukong three times on the head, then walked inside with his hands behind his back, and closed the door. When the brothers saw that the master was angry, they felt very scared and blamed Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong was neither afraid nor angry, but was very happy. That night, Wukong pretended to be asleep, but when it was midnight, he quietly got up, went out through the front door, waited until the third watch, went around to the back door, seeing the door half open and half closed, he was extremely happy and thought, “Haha, I didn’t guess what Master meant wrong.”

Sun Wukong walked in and saw the patriarch who was sleeping with his back to him. He knelt down in front of the bed and said, “Master, I’m kneeling here and waiting for you!” The Patriarch got up when he heard the voice, sat cross-legged, and asked Sun Wukong sternly what he was doing, and Wukong said: “Didn’t Master promise me in front of everyone during the day, let me come in through the back door at the third watch, and teach me the magic of immortality?”

Patriarch Bodhi was very happy when he heard this. He thought to himself: “This monkey is indeed born from heaven and earth, otherwise, how can he guess my secret mystery.” So he asked Sun Wukong to kneel in front of the bed and teach him the magic of immortality. Sun Wukong listened attentively, understood with his heart, memorized the formulas firmly, and kowtowed to thank the ancestors for their kindness.

Soon three years passed, and the Patriarch taught Sun Wukong seventy-two transformational spells and the ability to do somersaults. Once he learned this ability, he could travel 108,000 miles with one somersault. Sun Wukong is a monkey, he likes to jump and jump, so it is easy to learn somersaults.

One summer, Sun Wukong and his senior brothers were playing in front of the cave door. Everyone asked Sun Wukong to change something to see. Sun Wukong felt very happy, chanted a spell proudly, and transformed into a big tree.

The brothers saw him and applauded him.

Patriarch Bodhi heard everyone’s clamor, he came out on crutches and asked: “who is arguing? You shouted so loudly, do you still look like a monk? “Everyone quickly stopped laughing, and Sun Wukong also returned to his original state, explaining to the master and asking for forgiveness.

Patriarch Bodhi chased Sun Wukong away:

When Patriarch Bodhi saw that Sun Wukong had just learned some skills, he showed off and was very angry. The patriarch told the others to leave, gave Wukong a hard lesson, and chased Sun Wukong away. Sun Wukong was in a hurry and begged the Patriarch not to drive him away, but the Patriarch refused to keep him and asked him to make an oath: at no time can it be said that Sun Wukong is the apprentice of Patriarch Bodhi.
